In an area where forest fires can wipe out a neighborhood or town, we need a place for temporary emergency housing. Combine this facility with a space for a weekly free lunch, free meeting space for classes and groups (think AA meetings, healthy cooking classes, homeschool get-togethers, etc.), and sustain it through sales from a community thrift store and a health food store, bakery, and café, and you have a “Multi-purpose Community Facility!” If the community helps us with this initial funding, we will proceed to apply for grants and continue crowdfunding to build the facility in Colville, Washington. In this area, we are surrounded by forests (hence the need for an emergency shelter, complete with showers, a fully approved commercial kitchen, storage for cots, tables, chairs, and other necessities for a temporary shelter), impacted by poverty (Stevens County is one of the three poorest counties in Washington State; there is a great need for bargain thrift stores – for poor and rich alike, continuance of a free lunch program, and other services for the poor), and inhabited by a growing number of healthy-minded individuals who are moving toward better eating and living styles (well-served by the health food store, bakery, and vegan/vegetarian café). We need funds to take the next step in planning: blueprints, septic permits, etc. Your donation will help us know if YOU see the need for this facility! Please help us help others!
