Murragyate Village Boys Girls Club
The Murraygate Village Boys & Girls Club is a community center located within the Fairfax County side of Alexandria, Virginia. This center serves a population of around 110 youth ages 5-18. The members of this center are composed of a very diverse group of kids, mainly 2nd generation immigrants from the countries of Ghana, Sierra Leone, Togo, El Salvador, Pakistan, in addition to members who were born in the area. Murraygate Village is located in a public housing complex where 100% percent of the population are low income working class families. The Murraygate Village Boys & Girls Club serves as an outlet and central location for youth in the area to be creative, enriched, empowered, and proactive. The program centers around 5 core program areas including the Arts, Health & Life Skills, Academic Success, Character & Leadership Deveopment, and Sports & Recreation. The center currently has a National Youth Outcomes Initiative score of 88, the highest within in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington Affiliate and more than twice the National Average of the 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs across America.
