BENEFITING: Muscular Dystrophy Association
ORGANIZER: Muscular Dystrophy Association
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2016
As a member of MDA Team Momentum, I am progress. I'm training to compete in my first ever half marathon, and I'm making my miles count, bringing help and hope to more than 1 million Americans living with muscle disease. including my friend's son, David.
I met Michelle and her son, David, three years ago. David has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). In those three years I've watched him play and grow and learn. He's started kindergarten and he has become a big brother, twice! If you didn't know he has DMD, you may not even guess.
Even though he is the oldest, he gets tired and has to rest more than his sisters. At night his parents carry him to bed. He's now at the age where he's starting to realize that he is different, which is possibly the most heartbreaking part of it all. His legs cause him pain especially at night and asks his mommy, "Why do I hurt? Why can't I play like my sisters? Why do I have to go to the doctor so much?"
Every dollar I earn helps the medical community fighting DMD run FASTER, and we can see the finish line. There are treatments in clinical trials RIGHT NOW on the verge of being able to treat HUNDREDS of thousands of boys with Duchenne, just like David. And a treatment for David's specific genetic mutation is gearing up for clinical trial in early 2016.
That is why I run!
For David, for the HOPE that we can CURE this terrible disease Every mile, every dollar, every step we take in the direction of treatment brings us all closer to our most desired dreams: to spend another day with the ones we love.
I am truly blessed that my family and I are healthy. I have everything I could ever need. I don't need things, and I have found instead a purpose, a cause that gives me so much more that material possessions ever could. Please donate to my race to help David and others like him.
Together, we are progress
Please join me! Sponsor my effort with a donation - and be sure to find out if your employer offers a matching gift program; it could make your gift go twice as far. Leave the legwork to me, and together we'll move toward a future in which muscle health, not muscle disease, prevails.
