Music for JP Seniors!
Organized by: Giovanna Tapia
Hi my name is Giovanna! Eight years ago, with support from the Boston Latino community, I created Spanish Immersion-JP. The mission of Spanish Immersion is to improve the quality of life for Spanish-speaking seniors in the Boston Area. Furthermore, our organization seeks to enrich the lives of everyone living in the greater Boston area by increasing the community’s understanding of Spanish language and culture and by celebrating diversity.
At Spanish Immersion-JP, our joy comes from building new friendships and sharing new experiences. We currently offer exercise, dance, music, computer, sewing and Spanish classes to seniors at 3 different locations. But we want to expand!
Our goal is to establish another music class. Why? because we love music! and our seniors love music! it keeps them active and happy. We currently have one class in Brookline, MA that meets once a week. We would like to create another class in Jamaica Plain, MA (JP)--that would also meet once a week. This would allow our seniors living in Jamaica Plain to attend music classes closer home, and offer those willing to travel to multiple locations an opportunity to play music more than once a week.
We already have a teacher willing to teach, instruments waiting to be played, and seniors wanting to learn! We just need your help! Our goal is to raise $5,200 USD. This will allow us to pay our music teacher $50.00 per hour, 2 hours a week, for 52 weeks out of the year. That's one years worth of music classes!
