BENEFITING: American Childrens' Orchestras for Peace, Inc.
ACOP’s programs reach children from under-served areas of Miami-Dade County. Auditions are not conducted, and our program is free of charge. The core of ACOP’s program is the focus on musical instruction and the world of music. Children are divided into separate orchestras; Classical Music Orchestras, Latin Music/Afro-Caribbean Orchestras, Chorus, Recorder Orchestras for Pre-K children and Parents for ACOP Orchestras which is composed of youths and parents
Pre and post evaluations on instrument techniques, music theory and history are administered to all children to monitor learning. Pre and post youth social competence tests are also conducted to assess each child’s progress on goals associated with interpersonal relationships and behaviors. Attendance is monitored carefully. Staff is involved in every aspect of the program including planning of weekly activities and events, data management for the children and their families continuously monitoring participation/retention and overall progress.
American Children's Orchestras involve family members and neighboring communities, regardless of social and economic barriers, to share in their accomplishments. After much instruction and mini rehearsals, youths are given opportunities to showcase their talents in performances at events throughout Miami-Dace County, such as the ACOP Music Festival "Children for Peace", TCT Family Expo, Miami Children Hospital, Miami-Dade College Book Fair, Centers for Seniors, Tree Lighting Ceremony at City Hall, Coconut Grove Art Fest and many other activities.
