My brother Bryan's bucket wish
Organized by: Jason Hudson
My brother Bryan is 35 years old. He was born with complex congenital heart disease, he was only born with one ventrical in his heart. Back in 1981 he was only given days to live. Miraculously he has survived all this time but it hasn't been easy. He has had over 12 open heart surgeries to replace the artificial valve and have pacemakers change. He has died on 3 different occasions on the operating table and the doctors had to use paddles directly on his heart to get it started again. He was in the hospital so much when he was young that he basically missed the best years of his childhood. He was never able to play any sports or anything because his heart is too weak and any hard impact could kill him. He takes 24 pills a day just to keep him alive. He is 5'6" tall and weighs 102 pounds. No matter how much he eats he can't put on any weight. His condition has made him self conscious around girls because when he takes his shirt off all you can see are scars from all of the surgeries he has had. He has a scar from right under his throat all the way down past his belly button, scars on each side of his abdomen and ribs where they stuck tubes in him, and scars around his groin area where he had incisions and tubes inserted. Whenever he was in the hospital he would always go around and talk to kids who had never stayed in the hospital before. He would always make them laugh and make them feel better even though he could barely walk himself. It was some of the most inspiring and selfless acts a 13 year old kid could ever do and I am proud to be his brother. On top of all of this, last year he was diagnosed with liver cancer. His body is too fragile to undergo normal chemotherapy so he had 1/2 of his liver cut out. My brother has endured more pain than anyone should suffer in 10 life times and yet his struggles still continue. He has to have another open heart surgery at the beginning of next year and the cancer in his liver might be back. He is going in for a biopsy next week to find out. My brothers condition has placed a huge financial burden on our family over the years. Millions of dollars has been spent by my parents and immediate family to cover medical procedures and deductibles. Also we had to pay for things that insurance companies didn't think were necessary or wouldn't cover. My family didn't care about the money just as long as Bryan had the best treatment available . My brother has the biggest heart of anyone I know and he is my hero. We have never been to afford to take him on the vacation that he has been dreaming about for years. He wants to spend 3 days in Las Vegas and a week in Rome to see the Colleseum, The Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican. I know this wish for my brother might sound selfish but he has suffered his whole life and is in pain everyday. If he can have a couple of weeks to not worry about his condition it would mean the world to our family. Please donate to Bryan's wish because he might not ever get the chance to do something like this. Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for any donations you are able to give.
