Ok all, so now comes the part I am not so great at, asking for support. I have committed to raising a minimum of $1301.00 (13.1) for Team for Kids to guarantee my entry in the race. There are many charities that will guarantee entry when you fund raise for them. I have spent much time over the past few months thinking of what charity I may want to support. There are so many good ones out there and so many in need. I thought of Suicide Awareness, having lost my first love to Suicide and many others have been lost since. I thought of the American Heart Association and Stroke Prevention in memory of my Mom. Many organizations fund raising for Cancer which we have lost way to many people too but thankfully have also had many survivors thanks to support and care. I am a true patriot and believe in benefiting our soldiers as they fight for our freedoms. So out of all these, then why Team for Kids? As someone is newer to running, I never thought I would find this level of passion for something later in life. I had no desire to start running, but once I did (thanks Carm), I was hooked. Not only has running helped me to get back in shape, but it has taught me personal commitment and dedication, perseverance, training has certainly helped me become less of a procrastinator, but most of all, it has brought me an amazing extended family that I have learned will do anything for you. I have made some of the closest friends through running. People who will step up and be there for you at a moments notice. People who support you when they see you struggle and cheer for you as they see you succeed. Those who will wait at the finish line until every member has crossed to push them and praise them and hand them that much needed bottle of water. Those who will open their homes to you. Those who will drive 3 plus hours one was just to run a race with you. This is like nothing I have ever experiences, and I have had some pretty great experiences. Because of all of this, Team for Kids seemed to be the perfect fit for me. If we can help the next generation see how much running can teach us, maybe we can help guide those at risk toward a better future. This is a ‘WIN’ for all of us. Team for Kids offers kids the opportunity to learn and grow through running. The breadth of NYRR youth services includes school-based programs such as Mighty Milers and Young Runners, plus exciting youth events and award-winning teaching tools to help adults get kids running. NYRR offers free health and fitness programs to children in schools ACROSS THE COUNTRY. By teaching goal-setting, perseverance, determination and teamwork, NYRR youth running programs are getting kids on track toward a healthy and successful life. You can help further that mission and help us teach the next generation of runners and athletes by supporting My Run and Team for Kids! Please consider donating, if possible. I know it is not always feasible, trust me I have been there. But there are many ways you can help. Even if not monetarily, you can still share this link to as many as you know and spread the word. I greatly appreciate anything you can contribute. Much love and gratefulness, Melissa
