My first half: Running for Ronald McDonald

Hello! This columbus day weekend, I will be running the Newport half-marathon. I never was a runner. I still don't really consider myself a runner, but I run and I enjoy it - for the most part. I started running regularly after my grandma very unexpectedly died in May 2014; it helped me cope healthily and gave me a space to simply be. There is something special about processing difficult life moments in the midst of a run. When grandfather passed away 4 months later - I ran. I physically exerted myself until I couldn't feel pain anymore. Throughout the past two years, running has been in and out of my life. But this year, I made it my goal to run a half-marathon before I turn 25 (my birthday is December 20, in case you want to add it to your calendar.) and I decided if I was going to do it, might as well do in a beautiful place with beautiful ocean view and not in the midst of humid summer weather - which is how I decided on the Newport half in October. Over the past two months I have gone back and forth about actually going through with it, but last week I saw that Ronald McDonald was a charity that the Newport Marathon raised money for and I knew it was a sign. My grandma volunteered at the Ronald Mcdonald House in Buffalo for 25+ years. She is an incredible woman and is the person who brought me to find running as a form of stress-relief, coping and joy - so it became crystal clear thatI had to commit to running the half and with that raise money for a charity near and dear to my family's heart. Thanks for reading, donate if you can, send encouraging notes and think fondly of me on October 9th as I push myself beyond what I believe is possible. I'll be sure to post ridiculous photos after for you all to see! xoxo Danielle
