Many of you may have heard or read about the devastating news about recent severe flooding across Myanmar. On July 31st, the Myanmar government declared the four worst-hit areas in central and western Myanmar as "national disaster affected regions", indicating the severity of the damage. The four worst-hit areas were in the northwest and west: Chin State, Magwe Region, Sagaing Region and Rakhine State. The heavy rainfall and flooding affected 12 out of Myanmar's 14 states.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation said nearly 1 million acres of rice paddy fields have been flooded (last upate Aug. 10), and more people are likely to be affected by flooding and strong winds over the next few days. There has been no update to Aug 10th death toll of 100. More than 259,000 homes have been decimated, leaving people stranded in remote villages.
I'm raising money to help Myanmar Flood Victims directly by distributing items such as blankets, clothing, rice, instant noodles, clean water, and other necessities. I'm in direct contact with organizations and people in Myanmar who will distribute our funds directly to the flood victims. Your in kind donation can make a huge difference to the victims who are now sheltering in rescue camps at monasteries. My homeland is very near dear to my heart and I hope together we can help the people of Myanmar.
