My Brother's Brain Cancer
Organized by: Sean Grant
In April of 2009 while visiting friends and family in Williamsburg, VA my brother ( Marc Grant) suddenly fell violently to the floor while playing an air hockey game. He was having a “Grand Mal” seizure. He was rushed to the ER where a CT scan revealed that he had a brain tumor.
Living in Suffolk, Virginia at this time, yet being born in New York, an inexperienced doctor at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Dr.Chang confirmed the diagnosis of a rare brain tumor “Analplastic Oligodendroglioma” and gave him only a year or two to live. After the doctor received a tongue lashing from my brother’s wife, he briefly went back to work for a short period of time. He worked as a nuclear security specialist (Special Forces Type) for Dominion Nuclear Power, but because of his recurrent seizures they had to let him go. With the tumor being located in the high left front parietal region, it was completely inoperable and it took all of this time to get his seizures under control. Since then, he’s received surgery/ a craniotomy for a biopsy with Dr. Gluton at Sloan Kettering in New York in 2011. The biopsy confirmed the stages of grade 2 possible 3 glioma. Later around March/ April or 2012 he was given radiation and Chemotherapy treatments with Temodar back in Virginia. With a lot of love and prayer and through faith my brother is hanging tough. He has since lost the use of his right hand and struggles to walk, but is continuing treatments bi-weekly with avaston and temodar once again. He was briefly on a two month treatment with CCNU which only proved to be ineffective and toxic. As with all catastrophic illnesses, he’s struggling to make ends meet. The debt has mounted and the medical bills have overwhelmed him and his family. With his wife and teenage son in the house and my mother in a nursing home in Virginia Beach, he still makes an effort to help. They are in need of financial help to continue this battle. Please donate to help him fight against this thing called “Cancer”.
