Ainsley's Angels of America is super excited to be spreading awareness and smiles through activism and education!
Myles has been a fighter since the day he was born, which started with him coming 5 1/2 weeks early with a condition called Hirschsprungs Disease. This lead to several surgeries and the discovery that the Hirschsprungs affected all but 48 cm of his small intestine. Leading to the placement of a permanent IV line, a g-tube, an ileostomy and a 14 week hospital stay to start off his life.
Myles was dependent on IV nutrition since he has so little intestine to absorb nutrients. His family was referred to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for a transplant evaluation when Myles was 6 months old and he was listed for an isolated small bowel transplant at that time. When he was just over a year old they modified his listing to include a liver as the IV nutrition is hard on the liver of infants and lead to irreversible liver damage. He got his liver/small intestine transplant three days after his second birthday. On top of all of that, Myles was diagnosed with Autism.
All of those challenges just made Myles stronger and if there is anyone in this world that is here to live in the moment, it's Myles. Through the 5Ks that I've done with him, he's showed me the power of the moment. His laughter, singing and excitement is contagious for me and everyone we pass!
Being able to share the excitement with him out on the open road has been a thrill for us both. The faster we go, the more excited he gets. The more excited he gets, the faster I want to take him. Having a new Axiom chair will allow us both to share in this powerful time together beyond a road race and into triathlons and biking. I hope that sharing the experience of these events with Myles it will inspire others to do the same for these amazing kids, which will then lead them to learning what I have learned from Myles. Live in the moment, because it's all we have. Yesterday and tomorrow do not exist, it's only this second that matters.
Let's help Myles experience triathlons by raising enough money to buy him an Axiom chair.
