BENEFITING: Y-APPLY INC
Have you ever met a person whose energy, warmth and passion for people was so overwhelming that your perspective on life was altered forever? My Luu's family, friends, classmates, coworkers, running buddies and admirers all over the globe will tell you that she was an inspirational force-of-nature and a living embodiment of the transformative power of education. And now, it's time for us to continue her mission...
Of Chinese heritage, My Luu was born in Vietnam. As a child, she emigrated to Houston TX with her family. My graduated as Valedictorian from MacArthur High School in Houston, then completed dual undergraduate degrees from Yale University (where she served as President of Silliman Residential College Student Council) and then earned her MBA from Cornell University. She was President of Yale Alumni Association of New York, Co-Founder of the Association of Asian American Yale Alumni, and former Advisory Council member of the International Rescue Committee in NY, which supports refugees from war-torn countries to rebuild their lives in the US. Professionally, she was part of IBM Accessibility, which provides technology solutions to address the needs of persons with disabilities, low literacy, cognitive challenges and/or the aging.
My's smile radiated joy and her enthusiasm energized every room she entered. She lived her life with robust vigor and limitless gusto. In September 2015, at the young age of 41, she lost her long battle with Amyloidosis, just seven weeks after her wedding day. Her legions of admirers miss her every day.
Partnership With Y-Apply, Inc.
In the wake of My’s passing, her friends and family sought ways to honor her memory and to sustain her zeal for the life-changing possibilities of higher education. My believed that her access to studies at a first-rate institution dramatically improved her life and we believe that she would have been proud to support Y-Apply, Inc. Y-Apply is a registered 501(c)3 charity dedicated to reaching high-achieving public school students from underrepresented ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and their families and educating them about financial aid options and the application process to top-tier colleges and universities. Students and families consistently credit Y-Apply as playing a key factor in gaining admission to a highly selective college or university.
This Memorial Fund directly enables support and guidance to disadvantaged high school students that face many of the same challenges that My encountered. A full 100% of money collected here goes directly to Y-Apply. Thank you for visiting this site and for your cooperation and generosity.
Please consider honoring My's legacy by donating to this worthy cause. In addition, we'd be grateful if you'd kindly share this link across social media and/or email to help us gain more awareness and supporters.
