Myocardial infarction affects over 7 million people throughout the world every year. There is a need for a novel therapy. Our treatment consists in the injection of a pharmaceutical drug in the wall of the left ventricle, as soon as possible after the beginning of the disease.
In 2012, we have demonstrated that our drug works very well on cultured cells. Then, in 2013, we have shown that our biotechnology is efficient in the normal rat.
From now on, we wish to test our drug in the rat model of myocardial infarction. In this animal model, the left anterior descending coronary artery will be ligated for 30 minutes, in order to mimick the human disease. Then, we will inject our drug in the wall of the left ventricle. One week later, we will determine whether the drug has had an effect on the destruction of the heart tissue, due to ischemia. We need funding to carry out this experiment. Indeed, with $3000, we will be able to prove the concept of our approach by buying 10 rats and everything we need to perform the experiment.
