EVENT DATE: Aug 17, 2014
UPDATE: The dream team, dressed in kiwi-green shirts designed by Vanessa Taylor, successfully completed the Falmouth Road Race on Sunday. During post-game, we pretty much decided that other people can run marathons.
As a group, all of us would like to thank everybody who supported us in this fundraiser. A special shout out goes to Vanessa and Tom, Tod and Beth, and Mr. and Mrs. Hynes who hosted us in Woods Hole and were there to cheer us on at mile 5.
We exceeded our fundraising goal of $5,000. Our mother would be so happy with the support we received from all of you. We are too. Thank you!
We are building a team for next year! Stay tuned.
PS - Alex let Will win.
“My finish time doesn't matter” is a 3 member team made up of two Taylor boys, Alex and William (the third, Tom, is sidelined by injury), and a wife, Clarinda, who are running the Falmouth Road Race to further publicize and raise money for "He Also Had Five Daughters: the Jill McLean Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund”. The scholarship was started in 2010 as a tribute to our mother who passed away from acute myloid leukemia (AML) six months after retiring from her position as professor at Simmons College and just before committing more of her time to further her career and personal interest, which involved addressing historical and persistent inequalities in access to education. With that larger goal in mind, the specific mission of He Also Had Five Daughters is to provide financial support to young women pursuing an undergraduate education.
Our time doesn't matter in this race because none of us are in shape. In the 3.5 years since our mother passed away, the three of us, Alex, Tom, and William, and our wives, Clarinda, Vanessa, and Tessa, have welcomed five children into the fold, including (in order of birth); Otis (Alex and Clarinda's), Rhys (Will and Tessa's), Thomas (Tom and Vanessa's), Sam (Alex and Clarinda’s), and Hugh (Will and Tessa's). For all of us, this race represents our first group effort to run any farther than the changing table or grocery store for milk or yogurt since the kids were born, and it is a nice opportunity for us to continue raising money for He Also Had Five Daughters".
To date, we have raised approximately $55,000 towards establishing an endowment of $100,000 in our mother's name at Simmons College. Our goal is to raise another $5,000 through this fundraiser.
Please see www.crowdrise.com/had5daughters for more information about He Also Had Five Daughters’ origin and goals.
Although our time doesn't matter, Alex will probably win.
