This past summer I helped install a solar water pump in rural Pakistan. The project aims to resolve the longstanding water crisis in the area and provide the 1500 residents with a sustainable and maintenance-free supply of clean water. Prolonged electricity outages in the area meant that our solution also had to be independent of government-supplied power. We achieved these goals by tapping clean underground water at approximately 300 feet and pumping it to the surface using solar energy. Our solar-powered water pump secures clean and easily accessible water for around 600 residents daily and has helped alleviate disease and conflict due to a lack of clean water. I am raising funds to take this idea to other villages in Pakistan.
