My experience with Wellspring is not personal, in that, I was not the subject of abuse. I did however meet a woman with a newborn who was in a violent relationship. To all the world the outward appearance was of a happy couple expecting their first child. She was an educated well spoken young woman searching for an apartment to call home and welcome her child into the world. Her partner and father to her unborn child, was friendly and offered support to his community if needed.
All seemed well, until a neighbor called the police because he heard the male verbally threatening her as she ran from door to door begging for help. The police arrived and she made up a story as to why she was running for her life and would not press charges. This is a sad sad story told over and over with different names and faces all across Saratoga County.
I couldn't stop thinking about the young woman or her partner for that matter. I didn't know them well enough to intervene directly, but I did have a resource, and that was WELLSPRING. She received Wellsprings contact info anonymously. I am so thankful that they are a community resource. Please consider extra support during October for the Purple Purse Challenge. And don't forget that Wellspring needs community involvement all year long, because as we all know, abuse is not seasonal.
