BENEFITING: Transverse Myelitis Association
EVENT DATE: Oct 06, 2013
Join Jon and I on October 6, 2013 for the first ever Illinois Walk-Run-N-Roll for the Transverse Myelitis Association (TMA). Walk, run, roll, donate and most of all, spread the word.
Speading the word matters because many people--including health care professionals--are unfamiliar with TM, a rare neuroimmunologic disorder of the central nervous system. After being misdiagnosed for 17 years, I want to tell everyone who will listen that TM exists and should be considered when unexplained neurological deficits are present.
TM, like the related disorders ADEM (Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis), NMO (Neuromyelitis Optica) and ON (Optic Neuritis), can be difficult to diagnose and treat. Many of us living with these disorders, and our families, have felt marginalized, misunderstood and isolated. This event is a way to help us connect with others who are living with, coping with and even thriving despite these disorders.
Support and understanding will abound at the Illinois Walk-Run-N-Roll for TMA. Let's be sure no one is left out. The Walk will be Sunday, October 6, 2013 at McCollum Park in Downers Grove, Illinois. Registration is from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the start of the event. I hope everyone who reads this will contact me to volunteer, participate, advise or encourage. We already have some fantastic volunteers and we need more.
Anyone in Illinois whose life has been touched by TM, NMO, ON or ADEM is invited to join us. I hope we will raise funds and awareness but also have a day of fun and celebration. Spread the word. See you soon. <3 you all!
