Walk with us and embrace the power of Friendship!
FriendshipWalks is our first Annual Walk-a-Thon! It will raise awareness of the power of friendship in ending elder isolation and raise critical funds to support our programs. FriendshipWorks’ programs aim to reduce isolation and provide friendly support and assistance to the elders we serve, including one-on-one friendly visits, medical escorts, and friendly pet visits.
I learned about FriendshipWorks through the PetPals program. I thought my dog, Oliver, would be a wonderful petpal and volunteer. For those of you who knew Oliver, it's no surprise that he didn't "pass the volunteer test", but I did! That's when I began to visit and coordinate exercise classes at various assisted living and convalescent homes in Brookline and Boston. Everyone loves an elder and you know how lonely and isolated their lives can be. I walk for my Mom and Dad who benefited greatly from the kindness and compassion of their caregivers - just like the FriendshipWorks volunteers! Please join Truman and I on May 15th for a 3.5 mile walk from JP to Brighton (details to follow) to honor the elders in all our lives! If you're unable to walk.....please consider a donation.
