Hello friends and family, A…
Hello friends and family,

As you may know, the 39th running of the Chicago Marathon took place this last Sunday. I am not sure how many people in total sprinted/ran/jogged/walked it, but the Oar Runners certainly took it by storm (all two of us). The weather Sunday morning couldn’t have been more perfect; sunny, cool, tailwind in every direction…. In Grant Park before the start of the race the national anthem came on over the loudspeakers; right then the rising sun began to shine over the largest unorganized group-stretch session and I knew I was in for one hell of a Sunday morning jog.

The race itself went well. Due to some pacing issues in the first 16 miles, the last 10 miles felt like… 10 miles. But with bricks for shoes. And lead in my muscles. Arguably it was the most pain I’ve been in (until that was topped by Tuesday’s night loss to the Cubbies) but I dragged myself across the finish line in 3:28.

As I shift my weight in my chair due to achy leg muscles, I could hang up the shoes and say that it will be a while before I embark on a similar endeavor, but thinking about how much good we did makes that a fleeting thought. Together, including the efforts of the other Oar Runner, LT, we raised nearly $4,000 and have secured coaching for both accessROW and Pauly’s Pals for another year! Thanks to your generosity, two very deserving programs will still have the staff and volunteers they need to continue to function, and CRF’s mission to provide access to rowing, regardless of income, has gotten a nice little boost.

As always there are programs that could use your support, so as the holidays approach or you are just feeling like giving, please don’t hesitate to reach out – I’m sure I would be able to present a few programs that could benefit from your generosity (most notably: a race to benefit the survivors of breast cancer happening October 30th, where DePaul University will face off against the University of Illinois here in Chicago).

Thank you again for all of your support, from the bottom of my heart is it truly appreciated!

Very best,

Justin Gordon
