Weekly update:
With the triathlon behind me I’m now 100% into marathon training. Recovery from the triathlon was minimal at best and didn’t slow down the daily runs that I need to complete. I’m right on schedule and doing great. I’ll add the weekly goals below instead of just the monthly total.
I was able to be presented with the Firecracker4 charity check that is going to the Pat Tillman Foundation. Thanks to everyone that participated and helped us win the donation.
We are within the 100 day mark for the marathon. I’m still a ways from our target goal. If you have not donated yet, please click the link below and give what you can. All money goes directly to support our veterans and their families. I’m proud to be a veteran myself and support such a great charity.

I’d like to ask that if you haven’t donated yet, please do. I am doing everything I can to make this happen. Please help me with a donation. Together we’ll get this thing done.

This past week went well. I got in all 3 of my scheduled runs as well as the 3 sessions at Rock your Fitness. The Xterra triathlon that I signed up for is this Saturday. I’m nervous but so ready to see if I can get this thing conquered. This will be the first one I have ever attempted. I’m excited to see what these athletes do and see how I measure up. Wish me luck!

Weekly update:
The firecracker 4 went awesome. We created the largest team and won the award. We ended with 135 people on the team. Thank you everyone for supporting this. We hope to see the donation to the account within 2 weeks. Hope sooner, but we’ll take it. We still have a ways to go. I’m amazed at how well my times were for this run. In the past, I average right at 8 minute miles. Thanks to a lot of strength and cardio conditioning, I pulled it off with an average of 6:49 per mile. Huge improvement!! Hard work is paying off. Now back to marathon training. I’ll be doing a triathlon in 2 weeks. First time ever so this should be fun.

Weekly update:
First off, I apologize for missing last weeks “weekly” update. My excuse was that I was studying for my calculus final….. which is completely true. Calculus is over!! For now. I somehow finished with a 94%...... not sure how that happened, but I’ll take it. Now I can start putting some time back into training for this marathon. This month has 2 races. The Firecracker4, which I partnered with Rock Fit to team up and try to win $1000 donation to my charity. Wish us luck, we’re over 80+ at this point.

Weekly update: Finally getting closer to finishing the Calculus class, this will allow me to get started on my marathon training. Give me another week……. Midterm was last week and a huge mental drain. Somehow I managed to get through it. Of course in true Jerry-fashion, it’s never the easy way and never without a huge struggle. The struggles are what make us stronger. Final is next week so wish me luck.

June 9, 2014
Another week down….. another week closer. I’m pleased to announce that we are now 6 weeks into this and have been so pleased with the response and donations. I had originally planned to start marathon training this week, but this dang calculus class is still eating all my time. Not sure if I have a clue what I’m doing but have successfully gotten caught up with all the homework. Midterm this week and final in 2.5 weeks. Then it’s running time and I’m really needing to get out there and get some miles in.

June goal will be 50 miles. So far I’ve gotten 0 miles toward this goal….. No worries. I got a plan!!
Rock Your Fitness workouts 3 times a week. It’s tough to get up at 4am and willingly get my butt kicked, but I know it’s what needs to do in order to be prepared for the triathlon as well as the Ultra Ragnar. Doing well in these two different events will also help with the recovery and keep me on plan toward being completely prepared for the NYC Marathon. I’m all ALL IN!!
Upcoming races that I have on my schedule are:
Firecracker 4: July 4, 2014 (4 miles)
Sky-high Xterra Triathlon: July 19, 2014 (1000m swim, 20k Mtn bike ride, 6k run)
Ragnar Adirondacks: Sept 25-26, 2014 Ultra (6 man team 198-ish miles)
NYC Marathon: Nov 2, 2014 (26.2 miles)

June 2, 2014
First update in June. I had a great week of rest last week. I’ve been struggling through the Calculus class that I signed up for so it has been absorbing all my time. I have 4 weeks left and then I’ll be laser-focused on the marathon training. I just need to get through this class.

May mileage totaled 63 miles. Goal was 100, but had to stop running the last two weeks in order to rest.
June goal will be 50 miles. This will be a lofty goal as my priority will be to complete this dang Calculus class. Class ends in June, then look out marathon training!!

May 27, 2014
Another week and another update! With each passing week, we are that much closer to the start line for the NYC marathon supporting this great charity. My weekly update is a day late so that we can all honor and respect the Memorial Day weekend and what it stands for.
The last week was not as eventful as I had hoped for. I started getting some pain in my left knee. Come to find out, it’s from over-use. Increasing my running while still hitting the strength and cardio training hard was just a little too much on my knee joints. I’ve backed off the running to give the joints a rest. With school starting again this proved to be a wise and much needed decision. I guess taking 17 years off from any structured college class made me forget how dumb I am. And whoever named the course brief calculus needs to re-check the term “brief.”
Long and short of it, the running numbers have gone seriously down, but the strength and cardio exercise have increased. I hope this resting period pays off when I get into the official marathon training in mid June. Of course, you’ll hear how it works out soon enough.
A huge Welcome to the efforts to my new VFW friends in Texas. Thank you for joining the cause, donating to my charity, as well as for serving our country. THANK YOU!!

My May mileage is now at 63 running miles. Goal was 100. Maybe next month since I’ve tapered off running.
Upcoming races that I have on my schedule are:
VINYOGA: June 7, 2014 (5k trail run)
Firecracker 4: July 4, 2014 (4 miles)
Sky-high Xterra Triathlon: July 19, 2014 (1000m swim, 20k mtn bike ride, 6k run)

May 19, 2014 NYC marathon Team Tillman update:
In the past I have only sent this weekly email out to those that have already donated. After getting asked by so many people about how my progress is going, I figured I’d just send this out to everyone. If you would like to be removed from these weekly updates, just let me know, or simply hit your delete button…. I am including the past 2 weeks weekly updates as well for those that missed it.
As we approach Memorial Day weekend, please remember to thank a vet! One good way to do this is to donate to this great charity that I am raising funds for. Support me as I raise funds for scholarships for Military veterans. https://www.crowdrise.com/teamtillman2014nycmarathon/fundraiser/jerryalexander
We are at 20 donors totaling $850 toward our $5000 goal. We are now 17% there!! We’re getting so much closer….Thank you to all that have donated so far. 167 days until the start of the NYC marathon!
School started for me and I am already feeling the craziness of schedules. Wish me luck as I juggle a compressed summer session with the marathon training. Time is going to be stretched very thin. My 3 morning workouts are still kicking my butt and forcing me to get stronger. No other option!
For my weekly running May 12 to May 18: I got 3 runs in after the Ragnar recovery…. 6.5 miles, 3.5 miles and another 6.5 miles. I ran the workforce corporate challenge on Thursday night and turned in my faster mile splits to date. I completed the 3.5 miles with an average of 7:04/mile. Training is paying off.
May mileage total: 59.9 running miles. May mileage goal is 100 miles.
I am also competing in a step challenge at work and so far for the month of May I have 458,820 steps in or roughly 248 miles. Winner gets $100. I’m hoping to win it to put towards the marathon fundraiser.
I thank you for supporting me and hope you enjoy the weekly updates. We’re one week closer to the start line.
