BENEFITING: NASHVILLE PREPARATORY CHARTER SCHOOL
The funds raised by this campaign will be put towards purchasing supplies for Nashville Prep Charter School’s inaugural Arts Enrichment program. The program will cater to students in grades 5-7 and will cover a wide range of visual arts media and techniques. Furthermore, the program seeks to integrate art history with visual arts practice—to that end each lesson will center on an important style, period, or individual in the history of the visual arts. Students will also be encouraged to write and talk about both their creations and their peers. Because this is the first year that Nashville Prep will offer a visual arts enrichment option for its students, necessary supplies include such basic items as aprons, pens, pencils, markers, paper, clay, etc.
A landmark report conducted in 2011 by the President’s Council on Arts and Humanities, Arts Education: Winning America’s Future through Creative Schools, demonstrates that arts-engaged low-income students are more likely than their non-arts-engaged peers to have attended and done well in college, obtained employment with a future, volunteered in their communities, and participated in the political process by voting. Countless studies cited in this report emphasize that arts education increases academic achievement, decreases drop-out rates, and increases the chance of a child continuing on to college. Skills gained from focused arts training carry over into other academic areas including math and reading.
Your donation to this campaign will enrich our community of scholars in countless ways and aid Nashville Prep in our goal of preparing our community for successful and profitable futures.
