EVENT: Purple Purse Challenge
OPENS OCT 1ST!
Currently, if a woman anywhere in middle TN is escaping a domestic violence situation and does not have family or friends that can support her, she must either leave her pet with her abuser or place the animal in a shelter until she is back on her feet. Very often these animals end up in kill shelters or worse; the women (and often their children) stay in life-threatening situations because they refuse to leave their pet. As a dog owner myself, I can't imagine having to make that decision in any crisis. But that's those are the choices today.
The YWCA is launching the Pet Project, an animal fostering program for survivors of domestic violence. Your support can help take the control—both emotional and financial—away from abusers while protecting victims and providing safety to women and the animals they love.
7 out of 10 that’s how many survivors of domestic violence say their abuser threatened, injured, or killed their pets.
1 in 4 that’s how many survivors say they delayed fleeing violent homes for fear that their pet would be harmed if she left it behind.
3 out of 4 that’s how many survivors of abuse say they stayed because of economic reasons.
By supporting the YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee - YOU can help change these numbers.
