BENEFITING: Transverse Myelitis Association
EVENT DATE: Oct 05, 2014
In August 2012, my brother woke up with very little strength and energy. An hour later he was in the Emergency Room, going through a spinal tap and MRI. For the next several weeks, he was in the ICU, treated with high doses of steroids, had multiple rounds of plasmapheresis, had more spinal taps and MRIs . . . Zach was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis. WHAT??? Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking and said. When asked what this is, I pretty much tell others to google the definition. It is believed that Zach got this from having the flu. After a lot of rehab, Zach is working, again, and still recovering. This is very rare and not something that many people have ever even heard of. In support of Zach and others who have been diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis I am walking to increase awareness and to raise money for more research to be done
BENEFITING: The Transverse Myelitis Association
The goal of the Illinois Walk-Run-N-Roll Campaign is to increase awareness and raise funds for research and programs for individuals suffering from Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM), Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO), Optic Neuritis (ON), Transverse Myelitis (TM) and Recurrent Transverse Myelitis, and their caregivers.
The second annual Illinois Walk-Run-N-Roll for the Transverse Myelitis Association (TMA) will begin with Registration from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the Walk-Run-N-Roll and a Post-Walk Celebration. It will be held at beautiful McCollum Park, 6801 South Main Street, Downers Grove, IL. Proceeds will benefit TMA's research and service programs for people with TM, NMO, ON and ADEM.
Last year's event was truly a full circle day. People who have suffered in various ways, isolated by "rare" were connected by these same rare diagnosis as a means of support and instant friendships. We hope you will join us again this year to continue to show support for those affected by these life altering disorders and create hope and awareness.
Everyone is invited to register, donate and spread the word. Teams are now forming. For information, contact Liz Beutel at firstname.lastname@example.org or 630-922-5833
