I’m thrilled to be given a chance to run the Boston Marathon 2014. It has been a life-long dream of mine, but this year I am on a mission and I need your help. I am running in honor of the victims of last year’s attacks and hope to raise money for Boston’s One Fund as well as the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). The One Fund continues to do a wonderful job helping support the long term needs of Boston’s victims and their families. I have also been involved with the CAF for some time, and have seen first-hand the difference they make giving people with physical disabilities the ability to play a sport or lead an active lifestyle by giving new prosthetics or special wheelchairs custom designed for them, and that’s just a small part of what they do.
I am proud to have gotten to know over the last year some of the victims. Celeste Corcoran and her daughter Sydney were among the many at the finish line whose lives were forever changed. It has been a long road physically and emotionally, as Celeste lost both her legs and Sydney suffered a devastating injury to her leg. But their resilience and all of the victims’ “Boston Strong” attitude have been a huge inspiration to me and to so many of you across the country. I thank you for you generosity and want you to know you are making a difference with your donation. And I will run strong and proud on race day, April 21st, knowing you have helped support me as well in this journey.
