Nathan's Spirit Walkers will once again be walking on August 6, 2017 in his honor. It's a nice day to remember Nathan and who he was. A great son, brother, nephew, cousin, granson and friend to many.
In 2015, over 44,193 people died by suicide in the United States, and there were 1,410 suicide deaths here in Michigan.(CDC 2015). These deaths impact thousands of people each year. However, with your help, suicide deaths are largely preventable. Thousands of people are reaching out for help, receiving services and go on to live healthy and active lives. Mental illness is treatable, there is HOPE!
Walk for Hope is a 5K walk/run family friendly event to benefit Survivors of Suicide. Our yearly walk helps us to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention, intervention, and aftercare. It gives survivors a chance to remember our loved ones and helps to fund the services offered by SOS: suicide prevention, education, and aftercare. This year we are moving towards "ZERO SUICIDE," an initiative whereas the GLBR will need to be involved. There is no registration fee, however, the funds we raise enable us to continue to do this lifesaving work in honor of those we lost to suicide and to support those who struggle with mental health issues. All profits stay local to host pieces of training and events.
Here's The Story:
Less than one month until our event. Join us as we walk together to raise hope at Northwood University. Walk for Hope... Depression and Suicide Awareness is a 5K walk/run family friendly event that begins on the campus of Northwood University to benefit Survivors of Suicide. Our annual walk/run helps us to raise awareness and funds around the topic of suicide in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Our event gives survivors a chance to remember their loved ones, support those who struggle with mental health disorders and caring persons who want to support the cause.
