The Nat Htauk Monastery Free Medical Clinic is located on the grounds of the monastery in Bagan, Myanmar next to the Ananada Temple in Old Bagan. It was founded in 2010 by the abbott of the monastery, Dr U Hla Tun (who donates his time and efforts) and Daw Mya Myat Tun, a co-owner of the nearby Tharabar Gate Hotel. The clinic provides free care to about 900 patients a week and the monastery provides free lodgng and meals to the patients and their attendants who often journey long distances to come to the clinic. Tax-deductible donations can be made on this site by using a credit card (about 7.5% is deducted by the site and for credit card costs) or by sending checks made out to Palindrome Advisors, a 501(c)(3) approved organization, and designated in the Memo section to the Nat Htauk Monastery Free Clinic (a pledge can be entered on this web site to allow your donation by check to be reflected in the totals). The checks should be mailed to Palindrome Advisors c/o Lyn Aung Thet, M.D., 5 Shiloh Court, Madison WI 53705. An acknowledgement will be sent for each check that is $250 or over but is not necessary for checks less than $250.
