On September 16th, 2010 my father was in a motorcycle accident, where he sustained a life threatening brain injury which left him in critical condition. Two years later, after surgeries and countless hospitals and rehabilitation centers, my father is an inspiration to everyone who has had the pleasure of knowing him. His strength of character has been astounding throughout this journey and it has inspired me in so many ways. Almost two years later and with this race just a few days before my father's 50th birthday, I would like to take the opportunity to support such a worthy charity.
Our journey as a family has been a challenging one, not only for my father, but for all of our friends and family. Many are unaware of the impacts a brain injury can have on a loved one, family, and friends, and the National Brain Injury Association not only raises awareness and understanding of brain injuries, but is also dedicated to increasing access to quality health care. Individuals who sustain brain injuries must have timely access to expert trauma care, specialized rehabilitation, lifelong disease management, and individualized services and supports in order to live healthy, independent, and satisfying lives. For more information please go to their website at http://www.biausa.org/index.htm
Please consider donating to such a worthy cause in honor of my father and the 5.3 million Americans who live with a long-term disability as a result of a Traumatic Brain Injury. I hope to raise $1,000 dollars- approximately $100 dollars for each mile a friend and I will run on July 8th, 2012 in the Boilermaker 15k in Utica, NY. I have run this race before and though challenging, I am very excited to run this year while having the opportunity to raise money for such a wonderful charity.
Thank you for your support!
