BENEFITING: National Kidney Foundation, Inc.
ORGANIZER: National Kidney Foundation, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
As many of you know, in December of 2015 I donated a kidney to my father after he was diagnosed with end stage renal failure. It was simultaneously the most surreal, demanding, and rewarding experience of my life. The operation was a huge success, he was able to avoid dialysis, and today he is doing great!
Now, less than a year after surgery, I have decided to run my first marathon right here in New York City. To accomplish this goal, I joined the National Kidney Foundation's charity team in an effort to raise money and awareness for this cause. They are the nation's leading kidney disease awareness organization, and the money they receive supports transplant research, donor advocacy, and disease prevention programs.
Many people have told me what I did was heroic, and those sentiments mean so much to me. But I believe it only truly becomes heroic if it inspires others to act. One transplant can only save one person; your contributions can help save countless lives. And there are over 100,000 families on kidney transplant waiting lists who aren't as fortunate as we were.
My goal is to raise $2,500 - roughly $95 for each mile I will run on race day - Sunday, November 6th. So I ask you all to please consider donating any amount you can to this worthy cause. Remember, you guys have the easy part - I'll do all the running!
