BENEFITING: National Kidney Foundation, Inc.
EVENT: San Francisco Marathon 2015
EVENT DATE: Jul 26, 2015
On July 26, I will be lacing ‘em up again for the SF Half Marathon on behalf of the National Kidney Foundation. I'm joining Team Kidney in support of my mother, Kathy, who has been on the receiving end of two kidney transplants. She underwent her first transplant operation sixteen years ago after a mysterious virus caused her kidney function to rapidly diminish. Her sister, Diane, generously donated a kidney to her. This allowed her to be an active and attentive mother to her three children who were all under twelve at the time.
After about eight years, Kathy’s body rejected Diane’s donated kidney, and she began regular dialysis sessions three days per week. After seven years filled with dialysis sessions, numerous appointments at UC Davis & UCSF, and three potential transplants that fell through at the last minute, she received her second successful kidney transplant. The procedure appropriately occurred the day before Thanksgiving two years ago.
Thanks to the research and attention that kidney disease has received, my mother is one of many people who have gone on to live a regular & fulfilling life after enduring kidney failure. Please help support this cause by contributing to the National Kidney Foundation, so more families can benefit as mine has.
Thank you for your support!
