THE STORY:

When I was four years old my mother was shot six times in the driveway of our Edgewater Drive home, left to die. Thankfully enough, our neighbor heard the gunshots and called 911. My mother was rushed to the hospital. She stayed in the hospital for nine months undergoing multiple surgeries, tests, and physical therapy. She was told that she would be bounded to a wheelchair with the inability to walk for the remainder of her life. My mother never gave up. She raise four of us on her own from the ages of 3 to 9 from a wheelchair. She even survived our teenage year, and we were far from angels. Through all those years I never heard my mom say a negative thing about her life. Several years later she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis took over her life but mostly her memory. After living with MS for 20 years she has lost most of her memory. She can recognize some faces but still has a difficult time recalling who we are. Her memory span is only a few seconds long. Still, I never see her without a smile on her face or negative thing to say about her life. She is the most loving, positive, and STRONGEST mother I could ever ask for. She has taught me to NEVER GIVE UP, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, and that LIFE IS PRECIOUS. A few weeks ago, my mom looked at me and said, “I have a good life.” I know many of us would be bitter and upset with the life that was handed to us. But not her. She sees the positive in everything, no matter the situation.
On May 6, 2018, I will be running in honor of my mom and anyone who is struggling with MS. Today I am asking you to consider making a donation to fight the disease of multiple sclerosis in any amount. It might not help my mother at this point but if we try it may save the lives of someone’s mother, sister, or daughter in the future ..... we need to start somewhere. The effort is worth it!
I Love You Mom 💜
