This year, I'm happy to join Team Teal and raise awareness about ovarian cancer in honor of my mom, Kim Slobodnyak.
Over the past 3 years, I have run the New York City Marathon to honor the memory of my mom who was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2008 and fought for 5 long years before losing her battle in July 2013. Prior to her diagnosis, mom was an avid runner and ran many marathons...including the 1997 NYC marathon. Throughout her life's journey, mom exuded strength, courage, caring, and an infectious personality that would bring smile to everyone around her. She encouraged everyone to play Pollyanna's glad game and find the good in every situation, even 26.2 miles of running.
Each year during the marathon, I reflect on the values and lessons this amazing woman taught me and reconnect with her every step of the way.
Please help me honor her, and all the brave women who have fought and are fighting ovarian cancer, this year by donating to NOCC's Team Teal so they can continue to fund research to find a cure and promote awareness of this silent killer.
