A message from Carey Lockhart, the leader of our team:
Family and Health. Is there anything more important than your family and your health? That’s why I’m so excited about sharing these plans. Our family team is going to run the 2017 New York City Marathon for the benefit of Team Hope and the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF). This represents a wonderful way to combine family and health – running a marathon together, while supporting a cause that will benefit my Mother, Elizabeth Lockhart. Our Lockhart Family Team consists of Jamie Lockhart and her husband Brian Armstrong, Blair Lockhart and her boyfriend Andrew Valestrino, and me. Plus my wife Susan Lockhart will be providing support as our chief cheerleader.
Running has been an important part of my life, so it’s been a joy to see my daughters and their partners share a love of exercise, including distance running. We’ve run a few races together, including three in the last year – the North Face Endurance Challenge half marathon near Washington, DC, the Gulf Coast half marathon in Louisiana, and most recently the Richmond Marathon. I’ve run NYC three times, and it has been my favorite marathon, by far. It’s been a dream of mine to share the experience of the NYC Marathon with my daughters. And now, it’s even better that we’ll be able to do it for the benefit of the National Parkinson Foundation. NPF’s mission is “We make life better for people with Parkinson’s through expert care and research.”
My Mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s two years ago. She is fighting Parkinson’s daily with the same drive and positive attitude she has always shown. Her focus continues to be on trying to do as much as she can for others, in spite of the challenges she faces. We wish to honor my Mother though our support of NPF’s fundraising, and hope the effort will benefit her, along with all of the others affected by Parkinson’s. It’s just so great to be able combine these loves of my life --my daughters, my Mother, running, and the NYC Marathon-- through our participation in this event and it’s fundraising for National Parkinson Foundation. Thank you very much for your support.
