Hamilton Elementary is located in San Francisco, California. 62% of students at Hamilton qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. In class, students are learning California's role during WWII and the contribution of women throughout history. During their visit to Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park, students will gain context to what they are learning. As part of this trip, students will view the movie "Homefront Heroes" to gain understanding of the meaningful ways people at home supported the WWII effort abroad. Students will learn about the contributions of women and African Americans during WWII using a scavenger hunt. After visiting the visitor center, students will travel to the SS Red Oak Victory, the last remaining WWII-era ship constructed at the Richmond, California shipyards, for a tour.
This gift will help cover bus transportation for 86 4th-grade students to visit Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park. Every dollar raised will be matched 1-to-1 by the National Park Service Centennial Challenge Fund to cover other fees associated with this trip.
