THE STORY:

Natives In America is an online literary space for Native American, Alaskan Native & Native Hawaiian high school, college & post-grad writers. NIA hopes to provide the opportunity for reflection on contemporary issues from a seventh generation perspective. We hope to build a consolidated space for students to share (& America to read) what it means to be proudly INDIGENOUS in the 21st century.

We are raising money to bring our 30 Native American, Native Hawaiian and Alaskan Native youth writers together for a two day leadership summit next summer in South Dakota to further provide networking and opportunities for their growth as leaders of their nations and as voices in Indian Country. Our writers will be traveling from all over the country and represent more than 20 nations.

With your support, we hope to:

  1. Support travel funding for our 30 writers to travel to South Dakota in July/August to connect and attend workships for a two day summit.
  2. Invite Native speakers and role models to work directly with our youth through workshops focused on writing, leadership and nation building.
  3. Develop longterm strategy for annual or bi-annual conference in the future.
  4. Budget marketing and tools needed to make summit as successful as possible.
