What could be more inspiring than 7,500 people finding our individual ways to a shared aspiration: running 26.2 million dollar miles for organizational efforts working to better our world?
Being able to run my share of those 196,500 run-for-charity miles to benefit the good works of The Nature Conservancy. Since 1951, The Nature Conservancy has worked for the preservation of the Earth’s ecosystems and the life sustained within them. That includes big things like mountain valleys, rivers, and whales and little things like diapensia, phytoplankton, and mushrooms.
It also means that The Nature Conservancy has been around longer than I have protecting the irreplaceable natural resources which inspire my life: bees that pollinate the flowers that become delicious food (productive work); sharks that rekindle the swimmer’s primal fear and awe (humility and shared humanity); plants and soils that tickle my interest and bring this gardener her profession (beauty and curiosity); and the constantly changing, ever-the-same northeastern hardwood forest where my heart always feels at home (strength and refuge).
So…it’s time to act on my gratitude. I’ll mix sweat and heart with a financial contribution in hopes that I can inspire you to join me in making a larger financial contribution to The Nature Conservancy than I could alone. Please join me in my effort to give back to natural world that sustains me and, to varying degrees, everyone of us.
