For more than half a century, The Nature Conservancy has worked to protect Earth's ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. We work across the United States and in more than 30 countries, from Australia to Zambia, with partners in communities, governments, businesses and other nonprofits—and individuals like you.
The Conservancy’s origins can be traced back to the lands and waters of the Empire State. Nearly 60 years ago, The Nature Conservancy chartered its first official chapter in eastern New York. Since then, the Conservancy has protected more than 119 million acres of land and 5,000 miles of rivers worldwide, and manages more than 100 marine conservation projects globally, including a major restoration effort in the Gulf of Mexico. Here in New York we have protected nearly 1 million acres across the state, with landmark projects in places like the Adirondack Mountains, the beaches and bays of Long Island, the shores of the Hudson River and the waters of Lake Ontario, with increasing focus on our many international connections.
Your support of The Nature Conservancy 2011 ING NYC Marathon team will help us preserve our precious natural resources, for our health and prosperity and for the well-being of future generations.
