Navjeevan Mission Trip - Music Camp
Organized by: ATOMIC Mission Trip
"By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
This past February, I was blessed with the opportunity to go on my first missions trip to Mumbai, India. My team and I were able to serve the kids at Navjeevan Centre by teaching songs, tutoring, teaching bible stories, etc. Navjeevan Centre was chosen due to our individual interests in serving exploited women and children born into the Red Light District areas in Mumbai. I experienced so much of God's faithfulness and His great love for His children during my stay there.
I got the opportunity to walk down the streets of the Red Light District. My heart wept for the men, women and children trapped in that darkness. I saw women working as sex workers, children running around in the brothels and men on watch as pimps. I felt dread and frustration in my heart as I thought about the children that were growing up in those brothels and the mothers that were trapped in that lifestyle. I wanted to rescue every one of the women and children that I walked past but I couldn't. I had to walk away and leave them behind. It was through that experience that God really opened my eyes to the horrors of the sex trade in India and it made me really value the work Navjeevan is doing. Because of their dedication, there are 160 children living in a safe environment and away from the Red Light Districts. These children now have access to education, are cared for, loved dearly and valued. The very moment I met with the children at Navjeevan they showered me with love and filled my life with joy like I've never experienced before. From that moment, I knew that God was calling me to give of my time and resources to bless and serve these beautiful kids.
This December, I will be working with two music teachers from Kochi (South India) and my friend Jerin Thomas to conduct a music camp at Navjeevan Centre. We will be offering different sessions such as song writing, vocal lessons, teaching instruments, etc for 5th to 10th graders.
