New Brahmin

New Brahmin is trying to raise $3000 to sponsor a Youth Design intern for the Summer 2011 program on behalf of the fashion and beauty communities in the Greater Boston area. Good design is essential to all of our businesses, so why not help a high school student get on the right path to a career in design to help make Boston a better place and grow this city's creative economy?

Meet Denise Korn, founder of Youth Design

Meet Ivan Richiez, Youth Design intern

Youth Design provides internships that expose high-school students with creative interest to the world of design, to a variety of work environments and career opportunities in design, and to what it means to work as a professional designer.

Interns are mentored in leading design firms, agencies and design departments and participate in a wide range of tasks and activities integral to the functioning of a design office. Bringing enthusiasm, intelligence, and fresh ideas, YD interns make valuable contributions to their creative workplaces while undergoing an enriching, hands-on learning experience that raises their awareness of design and its potential to play a key role in their future.

Youth Design grew out of the realization that the creative sector has an enormous impact on the region’s economy. More than 40% of creative workers identify themselves as involved in some form of design, yet, students, their parents, teachers, even their guidance counselors are unaware of the job opportunities that exist in the design field. YD was formed in order to increase awareness of design as a viable career option and provide opportunities for public high school students who have an interest in art and technology to learn about the design profession as a possible career path.

Youth Design’s commitment to and success providing high-quality, paying design jobs to city teens has raised the profile of Boston’s design community and created a greater public awareness of design and of the essential contributions of designers to daily life.
