THE STORY:

Endurance Team Runs for NCF Student Scholarships

St. Jude | Country Music Marathon, April 28, 2012

What: NCF students, faculty and community are running the St. Jude | CMM half or whole marathon to raise support for NCF student scholarships! In honor of the 13.1 miles in the half marathon, our goal is to raise $13,100 or more as a group, and each individual Team runner has the goal to raise a base of $500 towards that collective goal. Most of the Team will mainly use Crowdrise's unique social network fundraising; regardless, our Team will be fully supported with the fundraising process!

When/where: race day is April 28th, 2012 in Nashville, the "Athens of the South". Between now and then, however, the Team has scheduled weekly training runs in Franklin.

Why: in addition to raising funds for NCF student scholarships, Team members enjoy some nice perks:
  - training plan (for half or whole) catered to first-time and experienced runners
  - weekly group training runs for fun and accountability
  - Team running shirts (Brooks technical shirts) for all who sign up by March 1st
  - special incentives for those who raise above the $500 per person goal

What is the Endurance Team?
Even Aristotle admitted that this moment of beholding was not "serious," but he knew it to be free, for its own sake. Good games and sporting events are the normal and symbolic experiences most people have that might teach them to understand something of God, to understand how something could be for its own sake. This experience teaches us how it is possible that something we might contemplate is something we might contemplate forever if it were fascinating forever. --James Schall

Some call it madness. Others call it insanity. Why run if no one is chasing or being chased? But those who run, know. As the Scottish missionary Eric Liddell said:
"God made me fast. And when I run, I feel his pleasure." Endurance sports--especially running--have long been a favored part of the Franklin parish life. Some of our Endurance Team members prefer 5k runs, some 26.2 miles. Some run fast, some with a leisurely pace. The Endurance Team has a place for all.

Some of the favorite local runs include Franklin Classic 10/7k, Nashville's Country Music Marathon, St. Jude Marathon (Memphis) and the Bell Buckle 15k. A few from the Endurance Team are even dreaming of running the World Marathon Majors: NYC, Chicago, Boston, London & Berlin.

In addition to running for the joy of being "non-serious", members of New College run as ambassadors and to raise funds for the College. We welcome walkers/runners at any level to join the Endurance Team!
