WHY IS NEBULA DANCE LAB RAISING FUNDS?
In our 3rd official season as a professional dance company, we are excited to be working on a new original work, by Brooke Hughes Melton, inspired by the history and mythology surrounding Trees. This piece explores the rich storyline between 'trees'/ nature alike and human kind, illuminated through the lense of recognizable tales and emotional landscapes. The movement language takes Nebula into a new world embarking on a dance work sure to compliment its already contrasting repertory library. In addition to the powerful choreography amongst the characters of this story, Nebula intends to collaborate with a variety of artists to bring this realistic fairytale to life including Anaya Cullen on Costume Design, as well as Visual and Graphic Artists, Sound Composers, Lighting Designers, and more. We are excited to share this new work with our audience(s).
Nebula is also focused on growing the outreach program with continued efforts working with 1st Presbyterian Early Childhood Center, Everybody Dance Now!, and working toward inclusion in the Creative Arts Program through the Santa Barbara County Education Office, which allows schools in Santa Barbara County the opportunity to bring professional dance performance into their schools at an affordable rate. Nebula’s performance program intends to incorporate the teaching curriculum correlation required for schools to integrate academic learning and arts exposure, making this program a more diversified experience for their students.
This season is shaping up to be our most exciting season to date including performance opportunities showcasing our repertory around CA such as Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco as well our first international performance and outreach opportunity in Santiago & Valparaiso Chile.
In order for the company to continue on a professional level it requires support from the community. Please become a part of this growing voice in the arts community and join our support network, any amount makes a difference!

ABOUT NEBULA DANCE LAB
Founded by Artistic Director Devyn Duex in 2010, Nebula Dance Lab has quickly become a strong voice in the arts community. The professional dance company provides an incubator for creative art in motion- allowing the professional company of artists in modern and contemporary dance the opportunity to experiment, push boundaries, and create new language in dance through physical exploration.
Beginning with the artistic director, one choreographer, and four dancers the company has blossomed into a company of eight dancers, four choreographers, costume & lighting designers, music professionals, video artists, multi-media artists, and garnered an opportunity to be in residence at IM=X Pilates Santa Barbara. From its beginnings until today Nebula has earned the support of individuals, businesses, corporate sponsors. Additionally, Nebula is proud to be the recipient of the Santa Barbara Community Arts Grant and the Center Stage Theater’s Rental Subsidy Grant.
Gaining momentum since our doors opened officially on the creative season in 2011, Nebula Dance Lab is thrilled to have successfully debuted four evening length new works over our first two seasons, featuring choreography by three local emerging choreographers, showcased in our self-produced shows ‘Clair-Obscur’ and ‘ReVision’ at Center Stage Theater Santa Barbara [check out the link included in the event].
Additionally, we have been honored to share our work with the California dance community at events such as NECTAR artist forum, SB-ADaPT Fest Sprouts, “First Thursdays” Art Walk, ‘Synergy’ Fusion Dance Company, and the Mix Match Festival (LA).
Moving into 2013 Nebula Dance Lab has its sights set on touring the current repertory around California to allow a larger audience to experience their work, including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Ventura, Sacramento, and more! A tentative tour to Chile marks the first international opportunity to perform for Nebula, while the self-produced show October 10-13th at Center Stage Theater Santa Barbara, offers the Santa Barbara community the opportunity to view a world premiere of the 2013 new original work by the professional company.
We are gratified to give back to the communities that support us, through free performance at fundraisers for community organizations, such as the Santa Barbara Birth Center, Center Stage Theater, Girls Rock SB, and through our outreach program, which provides performance movement workshops and performances at local preschools and with Everybody Dance Now!, a local dance education non-profit organization.
In 2013 Nebula is committing time and resources to develop a performance piece specifically for the Children’s Creative Art Program through the Santa Barbara County Education Office, which allows schools in Santa Barbara County the opportunity to bring professional dance performance into their schools at an affordable rate. Nebula’s performance program intends to incorporate the teaching curriculum correlation required for schools to integrate academic learning and arts exposure, making this program a more diversified experience for their students.
Nebula would like to thank it's amazing support network including IM=X Pilates, Strategic Incentives, Center Pointe Pilates, The Barker Family, Harold & Carol Wheeler, MassMutual Financial, Fidelity Investments, Pensionmark Retirement Group, and many more! Additionally, Nebula would like to thank the Santa Barbara Community Arts Grant Program and Center Stage Grant Funds for their continued support of this project.
