I have lived in the Massachusetts area for over 20 years and feel like a true Bostonian. Each year I have watched the Boston Marathon, usually from the 16th mile mark in Newton. I have witnessed many friends train and then run the Boston Marathon, and I have seen the hard work and commitment that they have put into their achievements. After supporting my friends, I decided to add running the Boston Marathon, my 4th marathon, to my bucket list, no matter what it takes. The New England Center for Children, a wonderful organization has now given me the chance to achieve my goal.
The New England Center for Children is a nonprofit autism research and education center dedicated to our mission: to transform the lives of children with autism worldwide through education, research, and technology.
Our vision is to be a global leader in the provision of effective, evidence-based educational services for the millions underserved children with autism and their families.
The New England Center for Children provides a full range of educational, residential and treatment programs designed to help children with autism, PDD, and other developmental disabilities reach their full potential. Our programs are designed to give children with autism a strong foundation on which they can learn, grow, and thrive. NECC programs offer a continuum of services for children at various ages and levels of ability.
You might be wondering why I chose NECC as my charity of choice to run the Boston Marathon 2015. As some of you may or may not know, I have both a relative and a very close friend who have children that developed PDD, a pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS). It is one of three autism spectrum disorders and, because of its seriousness, I have been wanting to get involved with a charity like NECC which assists children with autistic disabilities and provides programs that help them reach their potential. I want to make sure that those close to my heart can become independent, and learn and smile as much as possible. By committing to run in the Boston event, I have pledged to raise at least $7,500 by April 20, 2015.
I hope you will support me in my journey by making a donation towards my goal. This is my website where you can make a donation and follow my progress.
You can also mail a check to me made out to NECC. All contributions are tax deductible and go directly to NECC's Annual Fund, which helps pay for the materials and activities students depend on every day.
I will start training December 6 and every week thereafter until the marathon! Every step I take I will be thinking of all the wonderful students at NECC who are rooting for me to cross that finish line in Copley Square. I know my training for the next months will not be easy: there will be lots of cold and snowy days along with the sunny and warm ones. And, it is a big time commitment away from my family. However, I am deeply dedicated and ready to give it my all; I am determined to achieve my personal goal of FINALLY running the Boston Marathon!
For those of you in the Boston area, stay tuned for fundraising events that I'll be hosting in the upcoming months.
Thank you for your support and contribution to NECC. I am so excited to be able to do this!
See you at mile 26.2!!
