BENEFITING: Northeast Community Council, Inc.
LATEST NEWS on 9/12/14: You did it!!
Together, you helped NECC raise over $85,000 in less than a month! This means our after-school program is up and running, with 55!!! students enrolled in grades K-6!
We're keeping the Crowdrise open for another few days, because with so many kids, we need to open another room and so have to get some furniture! If you have a couch or comfy chair you were thinking of replacing, let us know, and any additional funds we raise will help us haunt Craigslist and tag sales and furnish another cozy room for the kids.
EXCITING UPDATE! We have a challenge grant that is going to get us to our goal, if everyone pitches in by September 15!
The Northeast Dutchess Fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation has offered a $15,000 challenge grant that we have to match 1-1. It's all or nothing, which means we have to raise another $15,000 by September 15. On top of the $55,000 or so that we had raised from donors and friends as of yesterday, that will get us to our goal and we'll be able to offer the same great program we've had for the last ten years, to all the children in the district who want to join.
So give now, tell your friends you gave (you can post it right to Facebook or Twitter, or email around) and help us get to the finish line! Thank you!
NECC's After-School Connection is a vital resource for families in Millerton and Amenia. We lost our funding but can't let the children down.
Every day nearly 50 children ages 5 - 12 come to our comfortably outfitted rooms at Millerton Elementary School. They play outside, get a healthy snack, and then get engaged in projects that develop skills in science and math, art and music. They get help with homework, they learn to work cooperatively and listen to each other. Parents can get connected to NECC's other programs and services if they need extra help through a crisis or family problem.
For junior high students, exciting and engaging clubs are the core of the program - this fall we had planned everything from maintaining our lush and productive school garden, to robotics, newspaper club, cooking and baking, tennis, and a range of community service projects like Empty Bowls and Toys for Tots. Homework help and 'hang-out' time keep students focused and supervised during the highest-risk time of day.
For the last ten years we've been funded through the New York State Advantage After-School program. But state funding is shrinking, and our grant wasn't renewed. So we all are working together to find the money to keep the program alive. We need to raise $85,00 to run the program this year while we are seeking out new grants. Will you help?
You can also click the "start your own fundraiser" link and set your own goal, which we'll count towards our larger goal. Can you raise $500, or $1,000 from your friends? Just think: $1,000 is all we need to keep the garden club going for the whole year - that lets us provide hundreds of pounds of produce to the school garden and to food pantries year round! Thank you for all you do to support NECC!
Please give today!
