Neighborhood Women’s Collective, Inc. is a not for profit organization dedicated to the empowerment of socially and economically challenged women and girls. Our work serves those who have been homeless, incarcerated, suffered with substance addiction, or other challenges and reside in the five boroughs of New York City.
OUR GOAL: TO ASSIST THEM IN BECOMING SELF-SUFFICIENT.
HOW WE DO THAT:
We conduct workshops in shelters, transitional housing, rehabilitation centers, churches and other social service organizations. Experts and professionals in different fields offer workshops that focus on job preparation, GED (TASC) information, micro-business development, empowerment and motivation, and communication skills. We refer participants to appropriate agencies that assist with other resources when necessary.
Our thrift store (NWC THRIFT & VINTAGE/COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CENTER):
--finances our activities
--serves as a place where women can sell products they make (micro-enterprises)
--provides work experience for women with no work history.
