NHS serves as a catalyst for local residents, business and government representatives to work together to build stronger neighborhoods, improve the quality of life for families of modest means and to revitalize communities into neighborhoods of choice. We strengthen communities through the development and maintenance of quality affordable housing, creation and preservation of affordable homeownership opportunities, and support of local leaders, providing financial education and increasing the financial independence of families and people in need. For more than 30 years, NHS has served clients and strengthened neighborhoods, helping to improve the quality of life for families in need. Since 1984, NHS has developed and rehabilitated over 19,688 housing and commercial units, placed 4.3 million families on the road to homeownership, created 215 block clubs, employed 220 neighborhood youth, and created 54,500 jobs during its history. Utilizing a public and private partnership approach to meeting its strategic goals, NHS has developed, owned, and managed its services as a community-based developer, reinvesting more than $4.7 billion back into some of Los Angeles County's toughest neighborhoods. NHS has protected home, commercial, and neighborhood values of more than $2.3 billion each year through its mortgage assistance, loss mitigation, and financial counseling work.
