BENEFITING: BUILDING BRIDGES WORLDWIDE
EVENT DATE: Sep 01, 2016
The devastating effects of the Nepal earthquake and aftershocks from one year ago are so widespread that what little aid has been received has barely scratched the surface of rebuilding one of the poorest countries in the world. In one of the hardest hit areas, Rasuwa district, every one of the 98 area schools was destroyed by an avalanche, in addition to 652 human casualties. Only one has been rebuilt so far.
This September I will be leading a group of volunteers to construct an earthquake-proof schoolhouse for the village of Katunje. Most of the schools that were destroyed were made of simple stone and aluminum or tin. We are going to build with cement and steel. This is an ambitious project, and unfortunately it's not cheap. We'll need about $60,000 to build something that will last. We need money now to secure some of the materials prior to the monsoon season kicking off this summer. At that point, many of the transport roads will be washed out, and getting the construction materials from the Indian border up into the Himalayas will have to be done manually, increasing the costs even further.
We don't have time to lose, so I am making my plea to friends, family and anyone who can help. Please think about how much you can spare, and make a donation today. Every little bit will help get us that much closer to our goal. Together we can do this. Thank you for reading and for your support, Brian
