NEPAL RELIEF REBUILDING THE SHERPA VILLAGE
On April 25, 2015 a major 7.8 earthquake hits Nepal. The Ghurka and Sherpa ethnic groups were hit hard. The government couldn't help anyone outside of the urban areas. Ingrid and I have been exploring the Himalaya ... sleeping in tents or staying with local villagers in Nepal and Tibet, two of the poorest countries in the world. In 2014, we hiked into the remote Kanchenjunga region with Mr. Kumar Kharki, literally trusting him with our lives. Kumar is our man in Nepal. He operates an NGO, Community Building for Sustainable Development, that installs cooking stoves, builds schools and medical clinics. We’ve made several donations.
Nele is a village in the Solukhumbu District in the Sagarmatha Zone of north-eastern Nepal. Sherpa culture and the Tengboche Monastery are unique to this district. UNESCO has listed Sagarmatha as a World Heritage site. After the earthquake Kumar reported 100+ homes completely destroyed. With our help the people of Nele built temporary structures.
The Nepali people are the most honest, hard working, self sufficient, and soulful people we’ve ever met. They are generous to a fault, humble and incredibly tough, both physically and mentally. Without a doubt they will survive and rebuild their lives after the earthquake. And they proved it. With our money, they pitched-in and built a medical clinic...after they rebuilt their homes...in one year. Our donations provided construction materials that rebuilt scores of homes. Our donations completed construction of the Panchan Health Post, a regional medical clinic.
Please contact us directly if you'd like to return to Nepal with us in October 2017 to dedicate the Panchan Health Clinic. email@example.com
