THE STORY:

Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund for Family
Since the massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck in Nepal on Saturday morning April 25th 2015 thousands of people have been injured or killed with many still trapped under the crumbled structures. We have been praying for our family and all the people of Nepal suffering under such a devastating disaster. As soon as the news broke I began the frantic search for my relatives and many friends back home. All of my efforts were in vain as the power lines and infrastructure was totally wiped out in Most of Nepal. Watching on the Television and later on Youtube, my heart began to sink into despair. The devastating images were breaking my heart. I felt so helpless, I couldn’t sleep and the nightmare only got worse with each new report of strong aftershocks.
I got on Facebook and reached out to my family and friends who reside outside of Nepal to find out if they have heard any news from Nepal. My sister Shanti’s son Alex finally responded in Facebook saying his mother and he are okay but everyone is forced to live outside because of the tremendous aftershocks. It has been raining outside so they found shelter in a high school in there district of Paknajol Kathmandu. There are countless others seeking shelter anywhere there is still solid ground. I also got hold of my aunt in Godawari, Kathmandu, she was overcome with the stress and lack of peaceful sleep. Her whole family is living and sleeping in a car. She told me they have been eating dry food and the water is becoming scarce.
My sister told me they are staying in the nearest high school in the dark at night and no electricity or food. Everyone were going in to their buildings, grabbing some snacks or food and running right back out so they can have something to eat. My sister’s flat is on the fourth floor so it was more dangerous to go get the food. She said, “The building is all cracked and ready to fall but we are hungry! I have to go.” That brought tears to my eyes and broke my heart.
My whole motherland is weeping and painfully bleeding. People are hungry and homeless, screaming for help! I am here in the United States, so painfully watching the news and videos on YouTube. I feel so helpless for not being able to do anything for them! It has been really hard for me to even think about what they must be going through. My poor sister…I am not sure what condition she is in right now. Her knee is not good, she can’t walk too far, and there is no transportation. Her cell phone battery was dying when I spoke to her last on April 26th. I can’t even get hold of her anymore.
I know I can’t be there to share their pain and sorrows with them right now but I would like to do something to help soon. Seeing me struggle for several days, my husband Ervan Martinez and a friend Carolyn Munoz offered me their help to set up fund raising so I can help my family. I have been praying every day and night for my family and friends’ safety. Hopefully Mother Nature will settle a little, and they can start thinking what to do next instead of being in fear of losing their lives. I would like to provide them shelter (temporary tents), food to last them a while, until things begin to return to normal and drinking water and water filtering systems, clothing and medical supplies. I would like to gather my scattered family and friends and put them in safe place where they are away from the destruction and disaster.
My Father and Mother live on a farm about six hours from Kathmandu and with this relief fund I will setup a safe sanctuary for them and provide for their immediate needs while helping them to return to Kathmandu whenever it becomes possible. To make this happen I need your help! I know there are many good people out there who would like to help and do good deeds.
“Let us touch the dying, the poor, the lonely and the unwanted according to the graces we have received and let us not be ashamed or slow to do the humble work.”
