BENEFITING: American Red Cross
EVENT DATE: Apr 27, 2015
25th April 2015 has been a sad day for all. Nepal experienced a catastrophic earthquake of 7.9 magnitude. A lot of monuments, homes and lives have been lost in just 2 days! The historical landmarks that were destroyed due to the earthquake included the UNESCO World Heritage temples at Basantapur Durbar Square and the Dharara tower, both in central Kathmandu. At this moment 2500 people have been reported dead and the number is still raising. Many are on the street and public open spaces with not much to keep them warm or fed. Also, women and children are more vulnerable to any other adversity.
Nepal, being a developing country does not have enough resources to fight back this sudden emergency situation. Brian Baptie, of the British Geological Survey, told Al Jazeera on Sunday that aftershocks of a magnitude of up to 6.8 - large quakes in their own right - could continue rumbling in the area "for many weeks". Therefore, I want us to take the initiative to help raise funds to relief the victims of the Kathmandu earthquake.
All proceeds will be donated to Red Cross. Please email me if you have further questions or need more information.
Any help will be very much appreciated. In Nepal $1=Rs.100, so even a $1 can make a big difference.
