Dear Family and Friends,
I am writing to share with you some very exciting news. I have decided to run the 2012 Boston Marathon for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). Running the Boston Marathon has been something I have wanted to do since running the NYC Marathon sixteen years ago. I’m thrilled to be supporting the Medical Center and the wonderful work done there.
This year, Team Grateful Nation is raising funds for BIDMC’s Project to Prevent and Cure Kidney Disease in African Americans. Members of the Nephrology Division at BIDMC have figured out why African Americans develop kidney disease at 5 times the rate of other groups, and are working to create new ways to prevent and cure kidney disease. The funds I raise through running the Boston Marathon this year will go to this important work, which will have implications not only for the therapeutic management of kidney disease, but also a host of other serious, life-threatening conditions, such as heart failure and vascular disease.
I feel very passionate about BIDMC and its mission, and I am grateful to be able to give back while accomplishing a major personal goal of running the Boston Marathon. I hope you will support my efforts by making a contribution.
Thank you in advance for your support. I look forward to being in touch with you as my marathon training and fundraising efforts continue!
