New Car for Single Mom of 4 With No Car
Organized by: Courtney Butler
I would like to tell you all about who this family is. We are a family of 5. 2 boys, 2 girls, and 1 mom. A year ago we had all been reunited as a family. We were bounced around from group homes and foster homes while mom steadily tried to get back on her feet. And she did. She makes about $600 every two weeks to barely support the household. From food, to rent, to water, to insurance to it all. My brother works a part time job to help make ends meet riding his bike long distances just to make it to work. But the income just doesnt cover all expenses. We struggle but we as a family try our best. When we were reunited we had no way of transportation. It consisted of early morning walks to drop off the kids to school and day care. It consisted of city buses to get from here to there with the loose change we could find to afford it. I finally saved enough money to buy the family a car. It was great. Then it broke. Again, we were back to the same old thing. Then my mom bought a cheap car with her taxes. No AC, and ran well enough to get us where we had to go whether getting to work two hour early or 10 minutes late. I am the girl in the bottom left. Im a senior and high school and was just about to start college. Until this morning. This morning felt just like any other day. We got dressed up and was heading out to the car to make it Sunday School. Only to find this. Yes. That is an empty parking space. With a bottle of perfume. Our car had been stolen. A million thoughts ran through me and my moms mind. 'There's no way." "Maybe we parked it somewhere else." But the sad story was that it had been stolen. So much hard work and so much accomplishment gone. So much anger. Why couldn't they have taken something else? By the way, we can only guess that they place d the perfume bottle there to be funny. It had been sitting on the seat. Who knows really. Anyways, we have no money. No way to get the kids to school and daycare. No money for a bus fare. No way to get to my therapy sessions after getting hit by a car a few months ago. No way to go to the store to get food. No car seat for the little one. And no way to get to HCC. Its so heartbreaking to see my mom torn apart. She's worked so hard to get us all back and into an apartment. She pays what she can of bills and provides food on the table. She is lost on what to do still at this moment while Im writing this. What I hope is to raise enough money to get a new car for her, for the family and as quickly as possible. It would mean alot to each and every one of us. Just to have something to get us where we need to go. A nything to not be where we were a year ago. Please help us. Photos of the car will be posted and I will keep you updated.
